My old shop vac hose split right down the seam yesterday afternoon

I wrapped it tight with two layers of that heavy duty foil tape and it's holding air better than new. Anyone got a better fix for when the plastic gets brittle?

Well, my tape fix sounds pretty half-baked now!

Tried that once and the tape adhesive failed after a few hot days. I cut out the split section and used a piece of slightly larger diameter PVC pipe as a sleeve, clamped it over both ends with hose clamps. Lasted longer than the original hose.
