I was cleaning my drill bits with a paper towel for years until a guy at the hardware store in Austin told me to use a cork

I read somewhere that cork works because it's slightly abrasive but not enough to damage the metal. Like, it gets the gunk off without messing up the cutting edges. I tried it on some old bits I had and it actually did a way better job than my old rag method. Maybe it's just me but the bits seemed sharper after.

Tried the cork trick on some chisels last week. It got all the old finish off without leaving any scratches. Works way better than steel wool for that kind of cleanup.
