I kept ruining drill bits for 2 years before someone showed me the trick

Turns out I was pushing way too hard on my DeWalt bits thinking more force meant faster drilling. A guy at the Ace Hardware in Portland told me to let the bit do the work and back off on pressure. Now my 1/4 inch bits last through 30 holes instead of 5. Has anyone else been making this dumb mistake for years?

Saw a YouTube video that said sharp bits cut better than cheap ones, and that changed everything for me.
