Had a neighbor point out I was cleaning my shop vac filter wrong for years
Guy came over to borrow my shop vac last month and watched me tap the filter on the driveway. He said I was just pounding dust deeper into the paper. Now I rinse it with a hose from the inside out, let it dry for 24 hours. It pulls way stronger on the first go. Anybody else got a better way to clean those pleated filters without wrecking them?

Yeah, I read somewhere that compressed air works better if you've got a compressor. Blow from the inside out just like you're doing with the hose, but it knocks everything loose without waiting a day for it to dry. Might be worth a shot if you're impatient like me.

Use compressed air on the filter like @harris.emma said. I heard a guy on a podcast claim he taps the filter with a rubber mallet first to break up the big chunks, then finishes with the air. That middle step seems to save some wear on the pleats compared to just blasting it.
