Gave in and bought a $45 laser distance measurer after my tape measure fell off a ladder for the third time
Busted my elbow catching myself on the way down, and now I'm kicking myself for not spending the money years ago has anyone else had a close call that made you finally upgrade a basic tool?

Tripped over a loose extension cord in the garage and faceplanted into a toolbox. That's when I finally stopped being cheap and bought a real measuring tool. The old tape measure and I had a good run, but after that fall I realized my health was worth more than saving fifty bucks. Now I've got a laser measure that lives on my belt and a tape measure that only comes out for really weird angles. The bruises faded, but the lesson stuck.
