Caught a neighbor's trick for cleaning a toaster without making a mess

I was helping my neighbor Frank on Maple Street fix his fence last Saturday and he mentioned he uses a stiff pastry brush to clean crumb trays instead of that tiny little brush that pops out. I always just shook my toaster over the sink and made a huge mess. So I tried it on my own toaster and it works SO much better. Has anyone else found a random kitchen tool that works better for a different job?

Funny how life's like that - you figure out one tool works better for another job and suddenly you start noticing it everywhere, like how I now use a spray bottle for dusting instead of a rag. Any little shortcuts you've picked up lately?

Read somewhere you can use a pizza cutter for chopping herbs too.

@ellis.felix thats hilarious you mention the spray bottle for dusting, I just started doing that too. But your toaster trick beats my dumb life hack - I used a butter knife to pry out a stuck crumb tray last week and chipped the enamel off my counter. Guess I need to find Frank and ask for a pastry brush lesson. At this rate I'll be using a spatula to scoop cat litter next.
