Saw a client with a DIY peel disaster last Tuesday

This girl came in with red patches all over her cheeks and told me she tried a strong at-home peel she found on TikTok. She used mandelic acid three days in a row because she thought more would be faster. I had to explain that over-exfoliating breaks your moisture barrier and makes everything worse. Now she's on a strict repair routine for at least a month. Has anyone else had to fix barrier damage from aggressive home peels?

Huh. I mean yeah she probably overdid it but a month of repair seems extreme for some redness. Sounds like a money grab to me.

Did she also have that tight, shiny look on her skin, like it was stretched too thin? I've definitely seen a few people who overdid it with acids at home and it's no joke, that irritation and stinging is awful. That month of repair is honestly pretty standard for getting the barrier back in shape, it's not like a quick fix at all. It's just a rough spot to be in, poor thing, she must feel so self-conscious about the red patches.
