Hot take: That comment about moisturizer from a bridesmaid stuck with me
I was doing a bridal party trial last Saturday and one bridesmaid said her esthetician told her she was using too much moisturizer because it was breaking her out. It hit me that I've never actually asked my clients how much product they apply, just what brand. Anyone else ever assume their clients know the right amount to use?
My clients slap on moisturizer like it's sunscreen at the beach. I've had a girl tell me she uses a full pump for her whole face and neck, but that's probably three times what she actually needs. For most skin types, a pea sized amount is plenty, anything more just sits on top and clogs pores. I started showing them during consultations, putting a tiny dot on my finger and spreading it out so they can see how far it goes. It cut down on breakouts for a few of them within a couple weeks. Now I always ask, show me how much you use, because assuming they know is a trap.
