The day I found out they don't use relay logic anymore
I walked into a modern elevator machine room last month for the first time in maybe 8 years. Back when I started in 2008, everything was relays, contactors, and I could trace a circuit with my eyes closed. First thing I saw was a VFD and a microcontroller board with no visible moving parts. The old timers used to say you could hear when a relay was about to fail by the sound it made. Now it's all quiet and you need a laptop to diagnose anything. Has anyone else had that moment where you feel like you learned the wrong trade?

I read somewhere that some of those modern elevator controllers actually have a "relay sound" emulator just to make the old timers feel better about the job. Couldn't believe it when I saw that, seems like a joke but apparently its real.

Ha! Sounds like somebody at the factory has a sense of humor. Probably same engineer who puts fake gauges on new German cars. Guess some things are sacred even if they're totally fake.
