Those old timer tips can be a real trap though. You get a napkin sketch that works once, but it doesn't teach you why. Next time the model is different and you're lost. I've seen guys rely on tricks and never learn to read the actual manual or wiring diagram. It creates lazy mechanics who can't troubleshoot from the ground up.
