Saw a hydraulic elevator from 1950 still running in a courthouse downtown

Old hydraulic elevators are basically tanks, they'll run forever if you keep the oil clean. That courthouse elevator probably has less tech than my toaster but I bet it's smoother than most modern lifts. 70 years and still going, that's just good old fashioned engineering right there.

lol you're not wrong but here's the thing nobody talks about. Those old elevators might be smooth but they use crazy amounts of energy compared to modern ones. All that hydraulic fluid has to get pumped somewhere and it's not exactly eco friendly. Still beats riding the stairs though lmao.
