Never once thought about door hanger rail alignment until last Tuesday

I was helping a guy swap out a controller on an old Otis in a hospital basement, and he casually mentioned my rail gaps were off by a quarter inch. Took me ten years in the trade to realize I'd been eyeballing them instead of measuring. Anybody else have one of those moments where a simple adjustment fixed a problem you didn't even know existed?

Oh man, I was totally the same way... I always figured if it looked close enough it was fine. Then a buddy showed me how the door was dragging just slightly and wearing out the hangers faster than it should. Once I actually pulled out a tape and squared everything up, the door slid so smooth I couldn't believe I'd been doing it wrong for years. It really makes you rethink all the little things you take for granted in this trade... sometimes the simplest fix is the one you've been missing all along.
