Door close button bypasses are getting out of hand

I inspected a 12 unit building downtown last Tuesday and found three elevators where the door close button was jumpered at the controller. Some handyman probably thought he was speeding things up, but now the doors close with zero warning and it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. It took me 20 minutes extra to trace each one because none of them left a note. Have you guys been seeing more of this lately on older setups, and do you charge extra for documenting the bypasses?

That "zero warning" part hit home for me. I once saw a guy get his arm pinched because the doors closed so fast he didn't have time to pull back, and he was just trying to hold the cart for his kid. The jumper was still in place when the building manager called me out, and that's when I stopped assuming anyone who did this was just being lazy. I charge a flat fee for tracing the hack, but I always add an extra hour for documenting it so the next guy doesn't get blindsided.
