Debate: greasing guide rails every 3 months vs. waiting until they squeak...

I've been doing quarterly greasing on my Otis runs for years, but a guy I met in Cleveland said he only lubes when he hears noise and his cars run fine for 20 years. Which camp are you in and have you seen any difference in rail wear over a 5 year span?

Oh man, that Cleveland guy is living on the edge (or maybe he's just got super quiet bearings)! I am totally in the quarterly camp myself, but I admit I've never actually measured rail wear to prove it's better.
