Controller board fried after a power surge at a condo tower downtown

Last Tuesday a lightning strike took out the controller on a 12-stop Otis elevator in a 15-story building on 3rd Ave. I spent the whole afternoon tracking down a blown capacitor and a fried relay on the logic board. Had to order a replacement board from a supplier in Chicago, which took two days to arrive. Anyone else keep spare boards on the truck for emergencies like this?

A 12-stop Otis probably just needed a reset, not a whole new board.

Have you noticed how everything these days is built to barely survive one hit and then just give up? It's like fast fashion but for elevators now. I keep a handful of common control boards in the van just for this reason, your mileage may vary but it's saved me more weekend trips than I can count.
