Unpopular opinion: I stopped trusting the 'no signal' screen on monitors about a year ago
I was fixing a 27 inch Dell monitor for a friend last spring, and the screen just said 'no signal'. The usual stuff, checking cables and the PC, did nothing. On a hunch, I opened it up and found a single bulging capacitor on the main board, a 1000uF one. Replaced it for maybe two bucks in parts, and the monitor came right back to life. It wasn't the source or the cable at all, just a cheap part failing and giving a generic error. Now I always pop the back open first if the cables check out. Anyone else find that 'no signal' is often a complete liar?

That "complete liar" thing is wild, but honestly I've found a bad cable is the culprit like 90% of the time.

I spent three hours last week trying to fix a monitor before I even thought to check the HDMI cable. Felt like a real genius when the new one from the drawer worked instantly. My troubleshooting process is basically just replacing every single wire until something clicks. It's a proud tradition of overcomplicating the simple fix.
