Remembering when I had to choose between a new scope or a better hot air station
Back in 2010, my budget only allowed for one big upgrade. I went with the Hakko FR-810 hot air station over a faster scope, because I was doing a ton of surface-mount board work. It was the right call for that job, but I still wonder how much faster diagnostics would have been with the other tool. Anyone else faced a similar gear crossroads?

That's the real struggle, picking the tool for the job you have now over the one you might need later. Sean_flores75 has a point about getting creative with cheaper add-ons. It's like when my old truck needed new tires or a tune-up. I got the tires because it had to drive safely right then, even though the rough idle was annoying. You make the best call you can with the money and the work in front of you.

Wasn't there a forum post a while back about someone using a cheap logic analyzer with their old scope to speed up digital checks? That always stuck with me as a workaround for tight budgets. It seems like sometimes you can patch the gap with a second, cheaper tool if you get creative.
