PSA: Tried a $40 hot air station from Amazon against my old Weller iron for a stubborn Xbox HDMI port

I mean, I was always a soldering iron guy for everything, but this one port had so much old solder and board adhesive. The hot air at 380 degrees Celsius just melted it all away clean in one pass, where the iron was just smearing it around and risking pads. Has anyone else made the switch for console work, or do you still stick with an iron for most things?

Honestly, is it really that big of a deal? Tbh my old iron handles most console jobs just fine.

I saw a video last week where a guy's old iron literally melted the plastic on his PS5 vents. Hugo_craig11, maybe yours works for now, but that heat has to go somewhere. Those consoles are packed tight and not made for the kind of heat a clothes iron puts out. You're basically cooking your hardware slowly and calling it fine.
