Finally fixed an old Sony CRT TV from 1995 with just a can of contact cleaner

I saw a post in here last week where someone mentioned cleaning the flyback transformer focus knob on their monitor, so I tried it on a Trinitron that had blurry corners for 20 years. Why does nobody talk about how much gunk builds up on those tiny adjustment pots?

Those white balance pots on the neck board get just as crusty" - yeah but be super careful poking around there with anything metal. I learned the hard way you gotta use ceramic or plastic trimmers on those, not just contact cleaner. One slip and you're buying a whole new set.

That bit about "cleaning the flyback transformer focus knob" really hit home for me. I've got a 1998 Trinitron in my basement that had the same blurry corners problem for years, and I finally tried that trick last month. It's amazing how just a quick spray of contact cleaner on those tiny adjustment pots can fix a picture that's been drifting for decades. I wish more people would mention that it's not just the focus knob either, those white balance pots on the neck board get just as crusty and can mess with color purity. Once you know where they are and how careful you have to be with plastic tools, it's like giving the whole set a second life without spending a dime.
