Blew $220 on a fancy soldering station that gave worse results than my old $40 iron

The temperature control on that Hakko knockoff drifted so bad I ended up lifting traces on a vintage receiver board, so now I'm sticking to my trusty Weller and wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with temp stability.

Oh man, that sucks so bad? I had almost the exact same thing happen with a cheap digital station I got off Amazon. The tip temp would just wander all over the place while I was trying to solder some small SMD stuff, and I ended up with cold joints everywhere. Weller is just so much more reliable for stuff like vintage gear where you really need to be careful. Hope you didn't mess up the board too bad.

Heard a buddy toast an old Tektronix scope that same way.
