Appreciation post: the day my soldering iron saved a $2,000 board
Last Thursday I had a router board from a call center come in with four blown caps and a cracked trace. After two hours of careful work and some jumper wire, it booted up perfectly on the first try. Anybody else have a repair that felt like a miracle when it worked out?

Damn, that must have been such a satisfying moment when it actually worked!

Is a $2,000 router board really worth saving like that? Most call centers just replace these things. Two hours of your time plus parts, you probably barely broke even. A new board would have been back online faster and come with a warranty.
