A customer questioned my soldering technique last week and it got me thinking

I was fixing a power supply board for an old stereo receiver, and this guy watches me for a minute then says 'why don't you use flux?' I've been doing this for 8 years and never really bothered with it much. He showed me his method on a scrap board - just a tiny dab before each joint. The difference was night and day, joints flowed way smoother and looked cleaner. Now I'm wondering how many other little habits I've been skipping that could make my work better. Any of you have that one tool or step you ignored for years before you finally tried it?

Oh man, that's the thing with hobbies and skills right? You get in a groove and don't even question your methods until someone comes along with a fresh pair of eyes. It's like when I finally tried pre-shredding cheese instead of buying the bagged stuff - game changer for my tacos, and I was mad at myself for years of not knowing.

Yeah, totally feel you on that. It's wild how long we'll stick with a habit just because it's what we've always done.
