Why does nobody warn you about the voltage drop on long 120V circuits

Used to just slap 12 gauge on anything over 50 feet and call it good, but after a customer down the street complained their saw was running slow on a 150 foot run I actually sat down and did the math on voltage drop and now I bump everything over 80 feet to 10 gauge even if code says 12 is fine.

Oh come on, if you're running 150 feet of extension cord for a saw you're already past the point of doing things right, might as well save the money and just deal with it running a little weak for ten seconds at a time.

Realize it's the same pattern everywhere - nobody checks their assumptions until it costs them time or money.
