Rant: Everyone loves those new push-in wire connectors but I'm not sold

Went to a supply house in Phoenix last week and the guy behind the counter swore by them. Said he uses them on every job now. I still think a good twist-on connector and tape is faster and more reliable. Anyone else ever had one of those push-ins fail on a hot circuit?

Have you actually seen one melt down on you before?

Saw a video from some electrician out in Texas who tested those push-ins side by side with twist-ons, and the push-ins actually ran hotter under load. That stuck with me. @drew_thomas9, I haven't watched one melt down personally, but I've pulled a couple out of old junction boxes that had that burnt plastic smell around the wire entry points. Maybe they're fine for lights and small loads, but I wouldn't trust them on a 20 amp circuit running a fridge or AC. The spring inside just doesn't have the same bite as a good tight wire nut.
