Panel swap gone sideways at 2pm in a dentist office

Old Square D panel in a strip mall, dentist said the lights flickered all week. I pulled the cover, found a double tapped neutral that was cooked brown and the main lug screws were stripped. I swapped it live for 20 minutes instead of pulling the meter, was that stupid or just normal for a fast solo job?

Live swapping a panel is sketchy but we've all done it when the meter is locked and the tenant is breathing down your neck. Key is you had the PPE and knew the load break points, otherwise you'd be posting from the ER. Next time just pull the meter, 20 minutes of hustle aint worth a funeral.
