Old timer electrician taught me a trick in Houston

Met this guy at a supply house off 45. He showed me how to use a rubber mallet to tap conduit into place. Saves your wrists from all that bending. Have you guys tried that or just stick with the bender?

Does it mess up the pipe at all if you hit it too hard?
