Meter clamp cleared a short I chased for 4 days

I spent 4 days swapping breakers and tracing a nuisance trip in a Phoenix house, then rented a clamp meter and found a nail through a staple in the attic running 14 gauge. That $40 rental from the supply house beat every guess I made with a basic tester. How often do you guys pull out a clamp meter before tearing into a panel instead of after?

Four days though? That staple must've been sitting there mocking you every time you flipped that breaker back on. I get the frustration but a $40 rental after 3 days feels more like stubbornness than bad luck.
