A 1970s house I worked on had cloth wiring that was still okay, but the new owner wanted it all swapped out.

We did a full rewire over two weeks, pulling new 12-gauge THHN through the old BX pathways. The difference in how the lights work now is huge, no more flicker when the fridge kicks on. Has anyone else seen cloth wiring hold up that well for so long?

Yeah, I read somewhere that old cloth stuff can be fine if it's dry.

Moisture is the main thing, but not the only thing. Even dry old cloth can rot from the inside out, thomas_black81. The fibers just break down over time. I've seen dry, stored canvas tents from the 90s just crumble when you touch them.
