Was I wrong about online coding bootcamps? My nephew's story has me second-guessing
For years I told anyone who would listen that those coding bootcamps were a waste of money. I figured you can't replace a four year degree with a few months of online classes. Then my nephew enrolled in one last fall after losing his warehouse job. Three months in he landed a junior developer role at a company in Columbus, Ohio. Starting salary was $52,000, which is more than I make running concrete jobs for twenty years. I still wonder if his story is the exception or the rule. Has anyone else seen a bootcamp graduate actually make it work long term?

Wait, $52,000 right out of a bootcamp with no degree? @jana_lewis16 I get what you're saying about only the wins getting advertised, but still, that number just blew my mind. I've seen guys with computer science degrees start lower than that near me. My buddy's kid did a bootcamp two years ago and is still at the same company, now making close to $70k. Could be a fluke, but your nephew's story lines up with what I've seen in a few cases. Your mileage may vary obviously, but it's definitely more than just a lucky few.
