Should textbooks be free or paid? My community college in Tucson switched to free online resources last semester and half my class stopped reading because they didn't like screens.

The free materials saved us $200 each but now no one does the readings, so are we really better off with digital access or did we just trade one problem for another?

Well heck, I've been in that exact same boat. What worked for me was printing out the key chapters at the library's cheap rate and treating them like real books with highlights and notes.

Does the physical feel of paper change how you read it? I've found the tactile thing makes a big difference for retention (highlighting especially). Straight up printing has been my go-to for dense stuff too.
