Just realized most people in my study group don't check source dates

I was pulling together info for a history paper last week and noticed three classmates citing a book from 1987 about the internet. I get that older sources have value, but not for tech stuff that changes every year. My professor called it out in our last class and now I double check every date before I use a source. Anyone else run into this with group projects where someone grabs the first Google result?

Aw heck, I gotta push back a little on this one. 1987 is pretty old for internet stuff sure, but some of those early books have a different kind of clarity... they saw where things were headed without all the noise we have now. I'd take a thoughtful older source over a slapped-together blog from last week any day.
