I finally figured out how to get my kid to use the free library tutoring after months of fighting
My 12-year-old was struggling with pre-algebra for a whole semester and refused to go to the after-school help at our local branch, saying it was 'lame.' I sat down with him last Tuesday and we looked at the tutor's profile together, which showed she used to be a video game designer. He agreed to one session, and now he's been three weeks in a row. What finally got your kid to actually use a resource you found for them?

Oh that's brilliant! I had to find a tutor who coaches my son's favorite sport before he'd agree to math help.

Smart move finding that connection. My cousin tried something similar with her daughter and reading. Kid would only open a book if it was about horses, so every single subject got tied back to horses for a year. History was about cavalry, science was horse anatomy. It worked, but now the kid is twelve and only talks about stables.
