Warning: Those cheap wax toilet rings at the dollar store are a gamble

I put one in last month to save $3 and already have a slow leak under the bathroom floor. Ended up paying a buddy $150 to pull the toilet and replace it with a proper rubber gasket. Has anyone else had a wax ring fail on them after just a few weeks?

Huh, I gotta push back on this one. I've used those cheap wax rings from the local dollar store for years on rental properties and never had a problem. Sometimes it's not the ring itself - maybe the toilet flange was cracked or the floor wasn't level when you set it. I've seen guys spend good money on premium gaskets and still get leaks because they didn't tighten the closet bolts evenly. A wax ring is just wax, after all. It doesn't know if you paid $2 or $10 for it.
