Warning: My bathroom fan almost caught fire because of a 20 cent part

I pulled the cover off to clean it and found the motor capacitor bulging and crusty, something I never even knew existed until I Googled it last night. Has anyone else had a capacitor fail on a fan that's only 4 years old?

My buddy's 3 year old bathroom fan did the exact same thing last month.

Buddy of mine had his bathroom fan catch fire last spring. Was running fine for 5 years then one night started smoking bad. Melted the plastic housing and everything. Fire department said it was just a bad motor winding.
