The plumbing aisle guy swore by duct tape for a weeping pipe joint, it lasted 3 days then sprayed everywhere

Some guy in the orange apron at the hardware store said just wrap duct tape around that leaking elbow and call it fixed, but by Tuesday morning my basement ceiling was dripping like a cheap faucet, so has anyone actually had tape hold a pressurized line for more than a week?
