The day my kitchen sink drain decided to become a fountain
Last Tuesday, I came home to find a steady stream of water shooting straight up from the drain under my kitchen sink. The plastic nut on the P-trap had cracked clean through, probably from getting bumped one too many times. I had to run to the hardware store in the rain to get a new 1.5 inch trap kit for about $12. Has anyone else had a plastic trap fail like that, or is it just my luck?

Oh man, that's rough. My buddy had his garbage disposal drain line just split open last month. Not a crack, a full split. Flooded the cabinet and ruined a bunch of cleaning supplies he had stored down there. He said it was the cheap plastic that just gets brittle over time. Had to replace the whole assembly.

Plastic plumbing parts and I have a bad history. I once tried to tighten a trap nut just a little bit more and ended up with two separate pieces in my hand. The whole thing just crumbled.
