That $200 smart thermostat I bought still hasn't paid for itself after 18 months
I got sold hard on the energy savings. My buddy kept telling me I'd recoup the cost in a year easy. But my winter heating bill dropped maybe $8 a month tops. That's not counting the summer cooling savings either because it barely made a dent there. I'm in Cleveland so our seasons are brutal and the house is old with bad insulation. Anyone else feel like these things are way oversold for older homes?

Right, because a fancy thermostat is gonna magically fix 80 year old insulation and drafty windows! Mine's basically just a really expensive way to not have to get off the couch to turn the heat down.

Feel like you're paying more for the convenience than the actual savings then, @brooke_walker23? Is it really worth it if your house is basically a sieve?
