Shower handle came off in my hand Tuesday night and I nearly flooded the bathroom

I was just trying to turn the water off and the whole plastic knob snapped clean off. Had to shut the water off at the main valve outside in the dark cause I couldn't find the little shutoff under the sink. Anyone know if those universal replacement kits actually work or am I looking at a whole new faucet setup?

Whoa, hold up - you had to go shut it off at the main valve outside in the dark? That's insane. I would've been standing there with a flashlight panicking while water sprayed everywhere.

Happened to me last spring and I feel your pain man. These plastic parts are such a joke, they're basically designed to fail right after the warranty runs out. I think it's the same with everything now, like my vacuum cleaner hose cracked after two years and the replacement cost more than half of what I paid for the whole machine. Those universal kits can work if your pipe spacing is standard, but most modern faucets have their own weird sizing to force you into buying their overpriced brand specific stuff.
