My shower drain was a 30 minute fix once I stopped guessing

Last month I pulled the pop-up stopper and found 6 inches of hair and soap goo wrapped around the pivot rod, so the real fix took me 30 minutes with a zip tie and a screwdriver. The drain was slow for 3 years and I kept pouring chemicals down it, which just made the clog harder. Has anyone else had a drain issue that turned out to be way simpler than the store-bought snake routine?
