My parents' old carpet cleaner still works better than the new ones I've tried

I pulled out my mom's 1998 Bissell carpet cleaner from the basement last weekend to handle a stain my dog left. That thing is heavy and loud, but it got the spot out in one pass. I bought a new $120 Bissell from Walmart two years ago, and it leaves soap residue every time I use it. The old model has a metal roller brush, while the new one is all plastic and feels flimsy. I guess they don't build them like they used to, especially for around $50 back then. Has anyone else noticed old carpet cleaners just work better than the newer cheap ones?

Didn't your mom ever teach you not to judge a book by its cover?

My buddy Mark once told me my face looks like someone tried to draw a person from memory and gave up halfway through. So trust me, I get the whole judging thing, it's basically my life story every time I walk into a coffee shop. But hey, maybe my mom was too busy teaching me how to properly fold a fitted sheet to get around to the book cover lesson. She was always more into practical skills, you know? At least I can keep my laundry looking sharp even if my face doesn't match the cover.
