Just wasted $60 on a magnetic stud finder that lied to me

Bought this Zircon e70 stud finder from Home Depot last Saturday thinking it would save me time hanging shelves. Every single mark it made was wrong, ended up drilling four holes in the wrong spots before I figured it out. Took it back and got a $15 manual stud finder that just uses a magnet, worked perfect on the first try. Has anyone else had these electronic ones mess up or did I just get a dud?

yeah I had the same luck with a basic magnet finder instead

My dad always says the more gadgets they put on something, the more ways it has to break. Same thing with my fancy thermostat that can't figure out what temperature I actually want.
