Finally got my utility sink draining right after 3 months of frustration
The old trap under my basement sink was this weird S-trap from the 70s that just kept clogging no matter what I did. Swapped it out for a proper P-trap with a cleanout yesterday and now it drains like new - has anyone else dealt with ancient plumbing setups that make no sense?

My 1950s house had one of those chrome S-traps under the kitchen sink that would fill up with grease every six weeks. After the third time I cleaned it out with a wire hanger I swapped it for a PVC P-trap with a cleanout in about twenty minutes. The difference is night and day, I should have done it years ago.

@hugo_coleman28 I get that a P-trap is easier to clean, but don't you worry about those old S-traps letting sewer gas back up? I actually kept mine because my sink drains fine with it and the house was built that way. I think sometimes old setups work if you just keep them clear.
