Debate: Should you use glue on threaded pipe joints or not? Visited a hardware store in Austin and heard two plumbers arguing about it.

One guy said glue is fine for extra security but the other insisted it just makes future repairs impossible, has anyone here actually had to deal with a glued joint that needed to come apart and how bad was it?

Not gonna lie, the first time I tried to undo a glued pipe joint I ended up looking like I fought a plumbing system and lost. The whole thing just twisted and snapped, and I had to cut out a good foot of pipe to replace the fitting. Take this with a grain of salt, but in my experience that extra security is a one-way ticket to a weekend project you didn't plan for. Your mileage may vary if you never plan on taking it apart, but I'd rather use pipe dope and hope for the best than fight a glued mess later.

The glue can actually melt the pipe if you use the wrong type.
