Basement pipe burst at 2am, my fix lasted until the plumber showed up

Woke up to water dripping through the ceiling in my laundry room last Tuesday. Turns out a frost plug let go on the copper line near the exterior wall. I shut the main valve, cut out the bad section with a tubing cutter, and stuck a sharkbite coupling on there just to stop the leak. It held fine for the 6 hours until the plumber came, and he actually said I did it right. Has anyone else had luck with temporary fittings like that, or do you just drain everything and wait?

Three AM water emergency and my brain thought "hey, let's play plumber" while wearing pajama pants and holding a flashlight between my teeth. The sharkbite fitting held up great, but honestly I was more impressed that I managed to find the main valve without crying first. Did the plumber give you any grief about the temporary fix, or did he just nod and charge you the usual arm and leg?
