Took a ceiling down twice in one morning over a stud layout mistake

Was hanging a 12x14 room in Portland last Tuesday and marked my furring strips off an old set of prints, wound up with a row of screws hitting nothing but air so the whole thing sagged before mud even went on. Had to pull it all, re-frame the layout from the actual joists, and it still cost me 3 extra sheets and half a day. Anyone else trust the prints over walking the ceiling first and pay for it?

I burned 40 minutes on a laser level once and still missed the joists, so now I always pop a few test screws before I commit to a full layout, saves my back and my drywall order.
