That old timer on a jobsite in Tulsa kept telling me to wet my mud less
He said 'stop chasing that perfect first coat, it's gonna crack every time'. I finally listened on my last house job and saved myself like 3 hours of sanding. Anyone else have an old school trick they resisted for way too long?

Mixing it right matters but that's not really the point here. The old timer was talking about overworking wet mud trying to get it perfect on the first pass. Thinner coats and less fussing will save you a ton of sanding time no matter how good your mix is.
