Swapped my corner trowel for a sponge after a ceiling job in Reno

I used to fight inside corners with a trowel forever, chasing those little ridges. Then a guy on a job in Reno told me to wet a sponge and run it down the corner before it set, and wow, that saved me probably 20 minutes per room. I still use the trowel for the first coat, but the sponge trick keeps me from sanding half the day. Anyone else tried this or got a better way for those stubborn factory corners?

My buddy Mike does commercial work down in Phoenix and he swore by this same trick for years. He told me he used to bring like five sponges to every job because they'd get so loaded with mud. One time he got rushed on a big hallway job and skipped the sponge step, just troweled and left it. The next day the GC made him redo every single corner because the lines were so bad you could see them from across the room. He said he learned his lesson right there and never skipped the sponge again. Now he even keeps a spray bottle with him to keep the sponge damp, which honestly sounds extra but he loves it. I tried it myself on a bathroom remodel last month and yeah, it makes a huge difference on the second pass.
