PSA: Just found out 5/8 drywall on ceilings is code in some places now
I was looking up a job spec for a condo in Seattle and saw they require 5/8 fire rated drywall on ALL ceilings, not just garages. I been using 1/2 inch for years on bedroom ceilings and nobody ever said nothing. Does your local code actually enforce this or is it just on paper?

Seattle building inspectors probably check ceilings with a laser level and a tape measure. Good luck sneaking 1/2 inch past them. I swear city codes are written by bored bureaucrats who just want to make your life harder. Next they'll require fire rated drywall on closet shelves.
