Just realized my smooth ceiling mistake after my living room redo

I went smooth on my living room ceiling last month and it was a big error. All light fixtures now cast shadows on the tiny flaws. A light texture would have covered those up easy. I'm thinking of adding a skim coat to fix it. What's your go-to ceiling finish?

Going smooth was the right move. Texture just covers up bad work and looks old. Your problem is the light fixtures, not the ceiling. Try different bulbs or positions before adding a skim coat. Smooth surfaces are modern and easier to paint later.

Smooth ceilings are popular, but texture isn't just for hiding bad work. It can make a room feel warmer and more lived in. Try adjusting the lights, but don't dismiss texture if it fits your style.
