I finally gave up on that old hand mud mixer after a job in Tempe
For years I used a basic drill with a mixing paddle, thinking it was fine. Last month on a big condo project, the foreman handed me his cordless mud mixer with the spiral blade. Mixed a full 5-gallon bucket in under a minute with zero lumps. My old way took three times as long and left chunks I had to screen out. What's your go-to mixing tool for big batches?

Watching a new guy try to mix thinset with a paint stirrer once was pretty painful. He was at it for ten minutes and the bucket was still full of dry powder. The spiral blade mixers are a different world, they just pull everything down from the top. Makes you wonder how we ever got by with the old paddles.

That's crazy you mixed a full bucket that fast. The spiral blades really do make all the difference. I'd never go back to a regular paddle now.
